Studying and being able to play Soccer at the highest level in the United States in the heart of New York City meant that my goal, which was the American Dream, slowly began to come true. Not knowing English, a new environment, and finding my first club were certainly not the easiest things.
When I came to the States, I started everything from scratch. In my Soccer career, the first stop was the Polish team Greenpoint Polonia. It was thanks to this place that I was invited for tests to one of the best academies in the USA – Philadelphia Union, where I spent my 2 years playing in the U18 team. Graduating from high school in the States was associated with the choice of the University for the next 4 years. For the first 2 years, I studied and played at Monroe College NJCAA D1 located in the beautiful town of New Rochelle just 20 minutes from Manhattan. Sport and learning at the same time are a thing that requires self-discipline. A workout in the morning, a quick shower, classes until the evening, then regeneration and preparation for the next day. At Monroe College, I met wonderful people with whom I keep in touch today. My team was almost 90% made up of players from all over the world, from Brazil to Australia and Japan. Students who did not speak English well could take advantage of free tutoring and ask for help with homework in various areas.
The dream of every athlete, regardless of the sports discipline in the USA, is to play at the highest level, i.e., the University games – NCAA D1. In my case, the transfer from Monroe College to St. John's University NCAA D1 – the best team in New York only confirmed that I am following the path and dreams I set for myself before coming to the States. The first game before the season made me realize that I am in a place that every young athlete dreams of. Flying to Texas for the first game on a private plane with his chef serving us meals at the hotel and 8,000 fans at the University Stadium made my American Dream a reality. University is more demanding than college, but it also gives you more opportunities after graduation, including finding a job in your profession.
After graduating, I was offered the position of assistant coach at Monroe College. I've always played Soccer because I knew I had to have a plan B if I didn't play professionally or if I got an injury.
Currently, I have been a coach at Monroe College for 6 years, where in recent years we have won as many as 3 national championships for the first time in the history of the school, which today gives us the status of the best team in the country when it comes to the ranking of schools in NJCAA D1.
